Kante, Pulisic, Abraham – Chelsea injury latest ahead of Porto clash

Chelsea face Porto in the Champions League quarter-final first leg on Wednesday in a crucial match in their season.

They will want to bounce back after Saturday’s shocking 5-2 defeat against West Brom at Stamford Bridge, where they suffered their first defeat under Thomas Tuchel.

And boss Tuchel has some injury concerns ahead of this week’s big match.

N’Golo Kante

Kante picked up a hamstring injury while on international duty with France recently and sat out the West Brom game.

At this stage he is expected to also miss the Porto match – but could be available for the second leg.

Speaking at a press conference last week, Tuchel said: “With N’Golo, we will have to be patient. Maybe the second game against Porto he could be available for.”

Tammy Abraham

Striker Abraham has been nursing a persistent ankle problem and was recently forced out of a training session.

He has since returned to training but was again absent from the matchday squad against West Brom. It remains to be seen whether he will be involved against Porto.

Christian Pulisic

The American has been plagued by injury problems since joining the Blues and is again struggling with hamstring trouble.

He started against West Brom – only his second league start under Tuchel – but was replaced for the second half by Mason Mount.

Tuchel explained afterwards: “Christian did a sprint when he came back out for the second half and said he felt his hamstring would not survive the game if he continued, so we made the decision to substitute him.”
