Chelsea and Spurs reportedly put off by valuation of Newcastle star

Chelsea and Tottenham have reportedly cooled their interest in Allan Saint-Maximin because of Newcastle’s valuation.

Both London clubs have been linked with the striker, who has established himself as a crowd favourite at St James’ Park.

However, The Athletic reports that Newcastle want £40m for him and that this has put his potential suitors off.

Chelsea and Spurs are both certainly looking to beef up their squads ahead of the new Premier League season.

Spurs boss Antonio Conte is determined to strengthen his side, while Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has made it clear that more new signings are urgently needed.

The Blues made two major signings this summer, bringing in defender Kalidou Koulibaly and England forward Raheem Sterling.

But with Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen having left and Romelu Lukaku loaned back to Inter Milan, and amid doubts over the futures of the likes of Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso, Tuchel says he must make further additions.

Speaking at his post-match press conference after the recent 4-0 defeat to Arsenal in a pre-season friendly in Florida, Tuchel said: “I look at the last season and parts of the game where we struggled, then we got sanctioned and players left us, and some players are trying to leave us.

“So we had an urgent appeal for quality players – a huge amount of quality players. We got two quality players but we are not competitive like this.”
