Spurs want former United forward Hernandez, Mirror say

Tottenham want to sign former Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez, the Daily Mirror say.

Liverpool are also said to be interested in buying the 28-year-old Mexican, who has impressed since joining Bayer Leverkusen from United last year, scoring 33 goals in 60 appearances for the Bundesliga side.

The Mirror say Spurs and Liverpool “are planning rival offers” as both clubs want to bring him back to the Premier League when the transfer window reopens in January.

Hernandez apparently has a £33.5m release clause in his Leverkusen contract, which Spanish club Valencia are reportedly willing to trigger.

Spurs would be looking to negotiate a lower fee, the Mirror say.

The newspaper adds that signing a number 10 is Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino’s top priority ahead of the approaching transfer window.

Along with Liverpool, they reportedly have concerns about Valencia’s apparent interest in Hernandez, who spent five years at United.

Valencia are currently fourth-bottom in La Liga and it is claimed that they want him to help them move away from trouble.

Liverpool’s supposed interest comes amid speculation that England striker Daniel Sturridge could leave Anfield in January.

Former Chelsea man Sturridge has been linked with a move to West Ham.
