Jose Mourinho admitted Tottenham’s failure to kill off the opposition is a “concern” following the 1-1 draw at Wolves.
It was the fifth time this season that Spurs have conceded in the final 10 minutes of a Premier League match.
Speaking at his post-match press conference, boss Mourinho said: “Of course it is a concern but more of a concern is the fact that we score early goals and we don’t kill matches.
“Even defending well, which we do as a team, that is not enough.
“We scored in the first minute and we had 89 minutes to score more goals and we didn’t.”
Meanwhile, Jamie Redknapp criticised Mourinho’s substitutions.
Tanguy Ndombele, who was outstanding, was taken off with 20 minutes to go at Molineux.
That was a mistake according to ex-Spurs midfielder Redknapp, who felt Mourinho was wrong to try to shut up shop.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “He made a substitution in the 70th minute where he brought off Tanguy Ndombele, who was in the form of his life – the guy is running the game, full of confidence and then you take him off.
“That sets the tone for the rest of the players. You then take off Son as well and say ‘We’re going to hang on to what we’ve got’.
“That then transmits to the players, who get deeper and deeper, and the inevitable comes.
“You’re playing against a team that keep going. You know they score late goals.
“If a manager takes you off after 70 minutes when you’re producing that kind of form, even if I wasn’t that player I’d be looking and thinking ‘Why are you taking him off?’
“And when you’re in that form, you don’t want to come off the pitch. I just thought it was a strange decision to take him off.
“They’re so reliant on Kane and Son and they were a little bit flat, so you need someone else to be that attacking threat and the only one was Ndombele.”
Redknapp also questioned Mourinho’s counter-attacking tactics, which were so effective earlier in the season.
“When you’re winning playing that type of football, no problem – fans will be happy,” he said.
“But it’s when you’re not winning, playing in such a negative fashion, not trying to push and make chances, that’s when the problems will arrive.”
