Redknapp: Lampard ‘doesn’t fancy’ Batshuayi

Jamie Redknapp believes Frank Lampard has shown that he simply does not rate Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.

The Blues have lacked a cutting edge up front so far this season but new boss Lampard did not even include Batshuayi in the matchday squad for Sunday afternoon’s 1-1 draw with Leicester.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former Tottenham and England midfielder Redknapp said: “Obviously Frank doesn’t fancy him, it’s as simple as that. If he did he’d be on the bench and he’d be bringing him on.”

One player Lampard definitely does rate is Mason Mount, who scored on his home debut to put Chelsea ahead.

Former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was among those who questioned Lampard’s decision to select Mount for last weekend’s game at Manchester United, where the Blues lost 4-0.

Lampard kept faith with the youngster and was rewarded when Mount scored after just seven minutes at Stamford Bridge.

Redknapp, who is Lampard’s cousin, said: “There were question marks last week about Mason Mount, people saying ‘Is he ready for it?’ He’s ready. He showed that today.

“What he gives Chelsea, what they haven’t really got in their team, is a goal threat. And that’s why he (Lampard) picked him.”
