Bettinelli savours ‘dream’ move to ‘special’ Chelsea

Marcus Bettinelli says his move to Chelsea is a dream come true.

The 29-year-old goalkeeper has moved to Stamford Bridge on a two-year contract after 10 years at Fulham.

He was a free agent, having recently left Fulham when his contract at Craven Cottage expired. He made 120 first-team appearances for the Whites.

And Bettinelli is clearly delighted at having secured a move to his former club’s illustrious neighbours.

“It’s always been a special club. I know the area very well so it’s been a dream of mine to come over to this side and it’s finally happened,” Bettinelli told Chelsea’s website.

“There were some talks a few years ago when I was a bit younger and for whatever reason that didn’t come about but I’m here now.

“I’m really excited to be involved and looking forward to trying to impress and help the team as much as I can.”

Chelsea were looking to bring in a back-up keeper following the recent departure of veteran stopper Willy Caballero.

Bettinelli will now act as cover for first-choice keeper Edouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga at the Bridge.

He spent last season on loan at Middlesbrough, making 41 Championship appearances for the Teesside club.
