Antonio Conte has reiterated that Chelsea must improve their squad this summer – and suggested they cannot expect a repeat of an “incredible” season without bringing in quality players.
The Blues won the title in Conte’s first season in charge, becoming the first club to win 30 matches in a Premier League campaign.
They fell short of the Double, losing 2-1 to Arsenal in the FA Cup final, but Conte insisted they can feel proud of their efforts.
However, the Italian is also mindful of the fact that Chelsea were fortunate enough to avoid injuries this season and did not have the demands of European football to contend with.
He is therefore keen to bolster his squad ahead of the club’s return to the Champions League.
“The most important thing is to give a correct evaluation of our season,” he said.
“For me this season was incredible. To arrive with 30 wins and be in the FA Cup final with a squad that isn’t a big squad I think was incredible.
“It happened because every player gave 120 or 130% in every game and we didn’t have injuries.
“It is very important to understand this and understand this season was incredible. Next season for sure we must pay great attention to understand we have to improve in numbers in the squad and also quality.
“We must be very cold and analyse the situation and understand that this season we did something great.”
