Paper round-up: Speculation over Wenger’s future as Arsenal boss

Arsene Wenger believes he is the still the best man to take Arsenal forward and will not stand down, according to The Times.

The newspaper reports that Wenger has told his coaching staff he has no intention of standing down at the end of the season and that he intends to see out the final year of his contract at the Emirates Stadium.

The Times say Wenger will resist any attempt by the club to persuade him to step aside this summer.

It comes amid reports the Frenchman’s job as Gunners boss hangs in the balance.

The Sun say Wenger’s position is being reviewed on a game-to-game basis and he looks increasingly likely to leave at the end of the season.

The Sun also say there is acrimony in the Arsenal dressing room, with players pointing the finger of blame at each other for their poor results.

It is claimed that there is anger towards Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for their performance in Sunday’s defeat at Brighton and at Shkodran Mustafi for apparently continually blaming others.

And Hector Bellerin is furious with Wenger for dropping him for the Brighton game, again according to The Sun.

Meanwhile, the Daily Star say Arsenal need to win the Europa League in order for Wenger to save his job.
