Emery has ‘responsibility’ to develop Arsenal youngsters

Unai Emery praised Arsenal’s youngsters after they featured in the 4-0 Europa League win against Standard Liege.

Gabriel Martinelli scored twice at the Emirates Stadium, where Kieran Tierney, Joe Willock, and Reiss Nelson also impressed.

And manager Emery suggested at his post-match press conference that he plans to give young players more opportunities in his team.

“My responsibility now is to give them chances,” said Emery, who left out Mesut Ozil.

The omission of Ozil will fuel speculation about the German’s future at the club, who are reportedly keen to offload him when the transfer window opens again in January.

Emery insisted that other players simply deserved a place in the side more than Ozil.

“When I decided he shouldn’t be in the squad it’s because I think other players deserved it more,” Emery said.

“He needs to continue working. Tomorrow (Friday) we have training with the players who didn’t play, and on Sunday we have another match, and we are going to decide the same.

“Our target is to win on Sunday against Bournemouth, and we want to carry on our same way in each match.”
