Emery: I’m my own biggest critic

Unai Emery has responded to criticism from Arsenal fans by insisting he is his own biggest critic.

The Gunners have been left trailing in the race for the top four, largely because of their poor away form.

They are without a win in their last six Premier League matches away from the Emirates Stadium.

Emery was asked at a press conference on Thursday about growing criticism from fans, particularly on social media.

“My first critic is myself,” said Emery, who made a great start to his first season in charge but is now encountering a difficult spell.

The Spaniard added: “We have the possibility and the opportunity to take the top four but we know it’s not easy.

“We are strong at home. I think we need to do better away. We started very well away, changing our mentality to get more points away. But now we need to recover this confidence and recover this performance.

“Then also we know defensively we need to do better. We tried to play with three and we tried to play with two centre-backs.

“It’s (about) work. Be patient, be calm, but above all work. We need to take more confidence and continue working.”
