Aubameyang arrives at Arsenal – and why 5pm on Wednesday is key time for move

Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has arrived at Arsenal’s training complex as his £60m move to the Gunners edges closer.

The 28-year-old was pictured at Dortmund airport earlier on Tuesday and is believed to have flown by private jet to the UK at lunchtime.

He is set to undergo a medical, having agreed personal terms with Arsenal, who themselves have an agreement in principle with Dortmund.

However, the German club will only allow the deal to go ahead if they can land a replacement.

That could mean Dortmund signing Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud, but if the Frenchman joins Chelsea instead, they may turn to Blues forward Michy Batshuayi.

The complex nature of the transfer means it may not be concluded until deadline day on Wednesday.

The German transfer window closes at 5pm, six hours earlier than in England, so it should be settled one way or another by then.

In a further twist, Chelsea boss Antonio Conte says Batshuayi is in contention to play against Bournemouth, which may cast doubt on him being allowed to leave Stamford Bridge.

Speaking at a pre-match press conference, Conte said: “Now he is a Chelsea player and for this reason he is in contention for tomorrow’s game – also because we have [Alvaro] Morata who is injured and I don’t have other options, especially with Willian injured.”
