West Ham reportedly set to sell Payet after new offer

Dimitri Payet is set to complete a move back to Marseille from West Ham, according to The Times.

There have been weeks of speculation over the future of the Frenchman, who has told West Ham he wants to leave the club and has indicated that he wants to return to Marseille.

Offers from Marseille have been rejected by the Hammers and there have been reports that a deal is unlikely.

Sky Sports suggested on Friday that sources had told them the two clubs were nowhere near agreeing a fee for the 29-year-old playmaker ahead of next week’s transfer deadline.

However, The Times say Marseille have made a fourth and apparently final bid of £27.2m and that the move is set to be completed this weekend.

The Ligue 1 side are reportedly also willing to pay a further £3m in add-ons — dependent on Payet’s performances and the number of times he plays for France — to secure the return of a player they sold to West Ham in 2015 for a reported £10.7m.

The Times say West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has urged the club’s board to accept the offer and that they are minded to do so.
