West Ham fans on Twitter have been less than impressed with the news that their club is on the verge of signing Preston striker Jordan Hugill.
The 25-year-old is reportedly close to a £10m move, having scored 10 goals in 29 games for Preston this season.
And in response, Hammers fans made withering references to comments made by the club’s board, in defending the move to the London Stadium, which they said would take the club “to the next level”.
Hugill isn’t a next level transfer. #WHUFC need #PremierLeague level players. #coyi

30 million quids worth of proven premier league goal scorers traded in for a guy who’s not even prolific in the championship. Shambolic. #BoardOUT #Whufc #Whu #Irons #TransferDeadlineDay #DeadlineDay

@davidgold why are we selling a proven PL goal scorer (Ayew) at a loss to a direct rival & buying an unproven champ striker with poor goal record? #WHUFC

Hugil another panic buy like Snodgrass. Absolute shambles #WHUFC #TransferDeadlineDay

Who is this Preston person we meant to be signing for mental amount of money for someone who done nothing in there whole career? What an embarrassment, you should be ashamed of yourselves @davidgold #WHUFC #COYI #westham #BoardOut

I’m glad that we left Upton Park so we could compete with the top six sides by buying world class players like the Championship’s 19th top goal scorer Jordan Hugill from Preston North End.

YESSSSS we moved from Upton Park so we could sign world class players like Jordan Hugill, massive signing???????

Jordan Hugill to West Ham !?!?!?!?!?!?!?
Hope he does well but let’s face it, it’s a very underwhelming bit of business.
The panic buy we all knew was coming. #COYI

However, a few others were more upbeat – pointing out that Michail Antonio was among West Ham’s previous successful signings from the Championship.
None of us knew what Antonio was going to bring being a Championship player, hopefully Jordan Hugill does the same and follows in his footsteps, can’t knock the lad before we’ve seen him play, if we are to blame anyone, it’s the pathetic owners we have at our club #whufc ⚒️

So we’re getting slaughtered for maybe signing a guy from Preston.
Michail Antonio anyone ?? ?⚒#whufc— Antony Ince (@inceywinceys) January 31, 2018
Hugill ain’t even put his boots on yet and he’s getting slated ffs. Not the top striker we wanted but he’s our player now So give the bloke your support.
