Leeds United’s move for West Ham’s Fletcher is off

Leeds United’s move for West Ham striker Ashley Fletcher is off.

Hammers boss Slaven Bilic confirmed on Tuesday he expected no more arrivals or departures prior to the 11pm transfer deadline.

They have ended their interest in Brentford forward Scott Hogan and now want to keep hold of 21-year-old Fletcher as cover.

Leeds were confident of signing the former Manchester United youngster on a loan deal but have now been told he is not available.

One Hammers prospect who is on the move is 18-year-old Reece Oxford.

The centre-back is set to join Reading on loan for the rest of the season.

Nottingham Forest and Scottish giants Rangers had been linked with a move for the highly-rated 18-year-old, while reports suggested Brentford had also been in the running.

But the Royals, who sit third in the Championship, have jumped to the front of the queue.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of his side’s game with Manchester City on Wednesday, West Ham boss Slaven Bilic praised Reading boss Jaap Stam, saying: “The manager there was really important for me in that decision.”
