Brentford boss: Toney worth more than Rice

Brentford boss Thomas Frank believes Ivan Toney is potentially worth more than West Ham star Declan Rice.

Bees striker Toney has had another excellent season in the Premier League and continues to be linked with top clubs.

Speaking at a press conference on Friday afternoon, Frank was asked about Toney and joked that he would cost more than £100m.

Asked whether Toney would really be worth that, and about reports West Ham want £100m for England midfielder Rice, Frank said: “In general I think there’s too much money in the football world.

“I think Declan Rice is a fantastic player. Goalscorers are normally more expensive.

“What will you pay for a striker that will guarantee you 20+ goals – and this is 20 goals for a mid-table club. What can he do in a bigger club?

“I love Ivan and I think it’s fantastic what he has achieved here – and there’s more for him to achieve here, no doubt about that. I think he’ll only get better.”

Brentford and West Ham face each other in a London derby on Sunday.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Hammers manager David Moyes admitted that there is a “good chance” Rice will leave the London Stadium this summer.

“We hope Dec stays,” said Moyes, whose side beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 on Thursday in the first leg of the Europa Conference League semi-finals.

“We would love him to be a West Ham player but we are aware that might not be the case. That is one of the scenarios.

“Our plans are to have Dec here but we are also fully aware there is a good chance that we won’t have him.”
