There continues to be speculation over the future of West Ham’s Dimitri Payet.
The 29-year-old has told the Hammers he wants to leave and has indicated that he is keen to return to his former club Marseille.
Sky reported on Friday that Marseille, who have had offers for Payet rejected, had abandoned their bid to re-sign him and were looking at other targets.
L’Equipe, on the other hand, have reported that Marseille have tabled a new offer for Payet, this time of £26m, in the hope of striking a deal.
The Daily Telegraph suggest neither is true, reporting that no new offer for Payet has been made, nor any indication that Marseille have ended their pursuit of the player.
The Telegraph also say Payet is missing out on £25,000-a-match appearance money while he is not playing for West Ham.
Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror say Payet has flown to Marseille and does not intend to return to London.
And, writing in The Sun, Hammers vice-chairman Karren Brady insisted the club would not be pressured into selling Payet on the cheap.
“If Marseille want a bargain they ought to try Roman Road market,” she declared.
“They should know that Dimitri Payet, skilled enough to play for Real Madrid as well as West Ham, isn’t going cheap, should we decide he can leave at all.”
