Paper round-up: Benitez reportedly wants to stay at Newcastle

Rafael Benitez wants to stay on as Newcastle manager despite being linked with West Ham, the Daily Telegraph say.

It comes amid reports the Hammers plan to make an official approach for Benitez following David Moyes’ exit from the London Stadium.

The Telegraph say Benitez would prefer to remain at St James’ Park but wants assurances over Newcastle’s transfer budget.

The Daily Express claim Benitez wants £100m to spend on players, full control over transfers and a £6m-per-year contract to stay on Tyneside.

Reports elsewhere suggest West Ham are moving closer to appointing former Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini.

Meanwhile, the Telegraph say Mikel Arteta is moving closer to taking over as Arsenal boss.

The Telegraph say Manchester City, where Arteta currently coaches under boss Pep Guardiola, now expect him to leave.

Arteta’s chances of succeeding Arsene Wenger appear to have been boosted by the outgoing Gunners boss saying the Spaniard “has all the qualities to do the job.”

The Sun claim Arsenal could sell Aaron Ramsey if he does not extend his contract, which has a year left to run.

The Daily Mail say Chelsea have compiled a list of potential signings which includes Manchester United forward Anthony Martial and Nice midfielder Jean-Michael Seri.

Chelsea have blocked a permanent move to Borussia Dortmund for Michy Batshuayi but would be willing to sell Alvaro Morata to the German club, according to the Daily Mirror.

The Independent say Juventus are looking to tie up a deal for Morata, who has struggled since joining Chelsea last summer.
