Paper round-up: Benitez set to block West Ham move for Newcastle star

West Ham are considering making a move for Jonjo Shelvey but are likely to face resistance from Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, according to the Daily Mail.

Shelvey has only made 12 appearances for Newcastle this season and is currently struggling with a thigh problem.

The Mail say West Ham are interested in the midfielder but that he could cost around £20m and that Benitez would not sanction the sale unless he is able to bring in a replacement.

The Mail also say West Ham defender Reece Oxford will hold talks with his agent in the coming days to discuss his future.

Meanwhile, Crystal Palace, Fulham and Everton want Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi, the Daily Mirror say.

The Daily Telegraph reports that Chelsea have rejected an offer from Barcelona for Willian and are in talks to sign Gonzalo Higuain on loan until the end of the season.

Chelsea are in talks with Zenit St Petersburg over a potential deal to sign midfielder Leandro Paredes, The Sun say.

The Sun also say Fulham have rejected a £50m bid from Chinese club Guangzhou Evergrande for Aleksandar Mitrovic.

The Daily Express claim Arsenal want Willem II striker Donis Avdijaj and that the Gunners have told Rennes striker Ismaila Sarr they are interested in signing him at the end of the season.

And the Daily Star claim Arsenal have agreed to meet Ever Banega’s wage demands in the hope of signing the Sevilla midfielder this month.

That’s despite Arsenal boss Unai Emery making it clear the club cannot afford to buy players.
