Paper round-up: Llorente linked with move

Fernando Llorente is open to leaving Tottenham and could return to his former club Athletic Bilbao, the Daily Mirror reckon.

The story appears to be based on striker Llorente, 33, previously suggesting he would welcome a return to the Spanish club.

He said: “I enjoyed many wonderful moments at the club that I will never forget and Athletic will always hold a special place in my heart.

“If they do make me a proposal to come back, then I would have to think about it and yes, maybe it could happen.”

Meanwhile, Arsenal have been linked with Manchester City defender John Stones.

The Sun say City are ready to sell the England international this summer and that Arsenal could be interested in signing him once Arsene Wenger’s successor as manager is in place.

The newspaper also speculate that Liverpool might want Stones too as they have money to spend after the £145m January sale of Philippe Coutinho.

Wenger’s successor at the Emirates Stadium will have to work with a restricted summer budget of around £50m, according to the Daily Telegraph.

The Telegraph also say Arsenal have been monitoring a number of players and are closely watching Mainz centre-back Abdou Diallo ahead of a possible move.
