Paper round-up: No Oxlade-Chamberlain contract talks,, Mirror say

The Daily Mirror say Arsenal have not started contract negotiations with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain despite Arsene Wenger stating that talks with the player had begun.

Gunners boss Wenger recently said that the club had opened discussions with the England international’s representatives.

But the Mirror believes that talks are yet to take place and that the Oxlade-Chamberlain camp were surprised at Wenger’s comments.

The Mirror also say Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has 18 months left on his current deal, “is growing frustrated at not being given the chance to nail down a regular place in the starting line-up and get regular game time.”

The Birmingham Mail say Aston Villa are hoping to agree a deal to take defender Carl Jenkinson on loan from Arsenal.

Jenkinson, 24, is trying to kick-start his career following a knee injury and is unlikely to get regular first-team football at Arsenal.

Villa boss Steve Bruce is said to be keen to snap him up when the transfer window reopens in January .

Meanwhile, Metro run a story about West Ham’s Aaron Cresswell – apparently a ‘Liverpool transfer target’ – touching the Anfield sign in the tunnel before his team’s game against the Reds on Sunday.

Cresswell, who was rejected by Liverpool as a youngster, was touted for a move to the Merseyside club during the summer.
