Paper round-up: Arsenal linked with Portuguese youngster

Arsenal have been linked with Benfica youngster Joao Felix.

The Daily Mirror have picked up on Portuguese publication O Jogo claiming that Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is looking to sign the midfielder this summer.

The 18-year-old, who has yet to play a first-team game for Benfica, is reported to have a £52m release clause in his contract.

It is claimed that Benfica would be happy to accept offers of around £35m for him and that there is also interest from Manchester City and Manchester United as well as Paris Saint-Germain, Monaco and AC Milan.

Meanwhile, the Daily Telegraph reports that Arsenal’s Henrikh Mkhitaryan could be out for the rest of the season after suffering a knee injury against CSKA Moscow in the Europa League on Thursday.

Mkhitaryan is thought to have suffered significant ligament damage and appears to be facing a spell on the sidelines.

“He has a scan but the medial knee ligament has been touched,” said Wenger. “The first impression is not too positive. I hope I’m wrong.”

And The Sun reports that 18-year-old defender Ben Wilmot, who has been linked with Arsenal and Tottenham, has been withdrawn from Stevenage’s squad to play Newport because his club believe a deal to sell him is close.
