Redknapp slams Tottenham over Dembele decision

Former Tottenham midfielder Jamie Redknapp says Dele Alli’s injury suggests the club were wrong to let Mousa Dembele go.

Spurs’ woes increased when England international Alli was taken off after suffering a nasty-looking hamstring injury during Sunday’s 2-1 win in the London derby at Fulham.

It came just days after the popular Dembele left the club for China – a decision Redknapp believes was a major mistake.

Speaking on Sky Sports, pundit Redknapp said: “I don’t want to be negative about Tottenham, because people say ‘You’re just talking negatively about them’.

“But in a way I have no sympathy because you’ve just sold one of the best midfield players in the league.

“When you talk to Tottenham players about Mousa Dembele, everybody, to a man, says he’s unbelievable.

“He hasn’t played as many games as he would like, but now how much could you do with him?

“Now you need him. So why on earth have you left yourselves so short?

“You cannot make me understand that Mousa Dembele move. Financially it might be good, but not for the team.”

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino, already without the likes of Harry Kane, admitted after Sunday’s game that Alli’s injury “doesn’t look good.”
