Alli to be assessed ahead of Brighton game

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino says a decision will be taken on Friday on whether Dele Alli will return against Brighton this weekend.

Alli has missed Spurs’ last two games after suffering a hamstring injury on international duty with England.

Pochettino says he will not rush the player back following three consecutive defeats for Spurs.

Speaking at a press conference on Thursday afternoon, Pochettino said: “We still we need to wait until tomorrow to assess whether he will be part of the squad. Maybe we need to wait a few days more to involve him.

“We are never going to put ourselves or our interests in front of taking risks with a player. We need to feel they are 100%.”

And Pochettino insisted he is in a relaxed frame of mind despite his team’s poor recent results.

“I am so relaxed, so calm. I know football,” he said.

“When you win you get praise you sometimes don’t deserve. When you lose you get criticised and you need to keep the balance. I accept that situation is going to happen.

“Our objective is to have a very good balance between all the perception and our reality. The group is OK, they are a little bit anxious about winning games. Sometimes it’s good to feel pain from the defeat.”
