Neville: Kane is ‘best in the world’ but Bournemouth made it easy

Match of the Day pundit Phil Neville says Tottenham were “brilliant” against Bournemouth but were helped by some woeful defending by the visitors.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side have been in superb form and the 5-0 thrashing of the Cherries at Wembley left them second in the Premier League.

Son Heung-Min scored two of the goals in another hugely impressive Spurs display.

Neville said: “Brilliant; brilliant manager, brilliantly coached, great set of players full of confidence, Harry Kane I think the best striker in the world at this moment in time and they’re a team that’s playing full of confidence.”

But former Manchester United, Everton and England defender Neville, now manager of the England women’s team, felt Bournemouth’s approach was a major factor in the result.

He said: “When you play against the top sides you’ve got to defend well and Bournemouth were too passive and weren’t aggressive enough.

“Yes, Spurs were really clinical, but every time Spurs got it into the final third they (Bournemouth) were always two or three yards off.”

Spurs are six points behind leaders Liverpool, while Manchester City lost at Leicester – the champions’ second defeat in a row.

“We are in a very good position, but Liverpool and Manchester City are the real contenders,” said Pochettino.

“We are between them and there is still a lot of work to do.”
