Tottenham tipped to rival Man Utd in battle to sign Milenkovic

Tottenham are to go head-to-head with Manchester United for Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic, reports claim.

Italian outlet La Nazione report that United and Spurs are ready to scrap for the Serbia international after some impressive displays in the heart of Fiorentina’s defence.

He has been an ever-present for the Serie A side this season, featuring in all 14 league games so far.

Milenkovic, who began his career at Serbian outfit Partizan, is valued at around £23m.

Jose Mourinho will be looking to bolster the Spurs back line in January and help get their title bid on track after a run of three games without a win and back-to-back defeats.

A miserly run of clean sheets propelled them to the top of the Premiet League before defensive lapses dropped them to sixth.

The report claims Spurs have already submitted an offer for Milenkovic – who has 26 caps for Serbia and has exceeded 100 appearances for Fiorentina – with the January transfer window opening in the next week.

Spurs attempted to sign Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar in the summer, but were put off his £40m asking price.

But Mourinho is now keen for a return to Serie A as he looks to add to his current centre-half options of Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez.
