Simon Jordan believes some Tottenham fans have been too eager to criticise Daniel Levy in the wake of Antonio Conte’s exit.
Spurs are again looking for a manager after another high-profile appointment did not achieve what was hoped for.
It has led to chairman Levy again coming under fire from disgruntled supporters.
However, speaking on Talksport, former Crystal Palace chairman Jordan said: “The Tottenham fans that go ranting and raving about the situation now are the same Tottenham fans saying it was dreadful to watch Tottenham under Conte.
“I believe there are Tottenham fans of a certain ilk who would wake up in the morning and if they have a hole in their sock would blame Daniel Levy for the hole in their sock.
“I’ve been listening to Tottenham fans saying ‘What in God’s name are we watching? What is Conte producing out there? Why have we got the handbrake on in every single game?’
“Who was that (down to) then? What that Daniel Levy’s fault then? Is that the owner’s fault?”
There were high hopes for ex-Chelsea boss Conte when he arrived in north London, but FA Cup defeat at Sheffield United added to growing unhappiness among Spurs fans and his reign ended following an extraordinary post-match press conference after the recent draw at Southampton.
Conte criticised the players and the club’s hierarchy, seemingly leaving his position untenable, and his departure was confirmed on Sunday.
Jordan admitted: “The bottom line is that Tottenham have made decisions to appoint certain managers and they’ve gone for what looked like best in class – nailed on winners – and they’ve got them at the wrong time: Mourinho and Conte.
“I was one of the loudest voices in the room when we were discussing the Conte appointment, suggesting that absolutely all day every day Conte, but that’s the version of Conte that I thought would come through the door.”
Meanwhile, Harry Redknapp doubts fellow former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino will return to the club for a second spell in charge.
