Rodgers ‘would do an excellent job’ at Tottenham

Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers would be a good choice to take over as Tottenham boss, according to Ally McCoist.

And the former Scotland striker believes Foxes star James Maddison would be a perfect signing for the north London club.

Spurs are looking for a replacement for Antonio Conte, who failed to deliver the silverware fans hoped for.

Leicester have endured a poor season and are struggling against relegation from the Premier League, but McCoist does not believe that should count against Rodgers.

McCoist is also convinced Spurs have paid the price for not replacing Cristian Eriksen and that Maddison would be ideal for the role.

Maddison has been linked with several clubs and has been tipped to leave Leicester this summer.

Speaking on Talksport, McCoist said: “They have not replaced Eriksen as a playmaker in the middle of that park. Maddison would be perfect for it.

“And I tell you right now, I think Brendan would do an excellent job.

“I really think that apart from this season you look at Brendan’s record and it’s been fantastic.”

German Julian Nagelsmann has been touted for the Tottenham job after recently being sacked by Bayern Munich.

And former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has been linked with a return to the club.

But McCoist said: “If Poch was going to get the job, you’d actually think he’d have been offered it by now wouldn’t you?”
