Pochettino: Tottenham will bounce back

Mauricio Pochettino has insisted that Tottenham will bounce back from their Champions League defeat.

Spurs were beaten 2-0 by Liverpool in the final in Madrid, where both sides were below their best.

The London team were boosted by the return of Harry Kane from an ankle injury, but the England striker was clearly lacking sharpness and Pochettino’s side in general struggled to get going.

But the Tottenham manager believes they are capable of staying among Europe’s elite and winning the trophy in the future.

“You want to experience this again and repeat it. It is the best game in the world after the World Cup,” Pochettino said at his post-match press conference.

“It’s about trying, believing and building the journey so it happens again as soon as possible.”

Spurs found themselves a goal down after Mohamed Salah’s early penalty and they struggled to create clear-cut chances before Divock Origi’s late goal sealed Liverpool’s win.

But Pochettino declared: “I feel very proud about their effort and how we fought.

“We were unlucky. We were fighting and we played so well in the second half.”
