Mauricio Pochettino admitted he got his tactics and team selection wrong after Tottenham lost at home to Ajax in the first leg in the semi-final of the Champions League.
Spurs were beaten 1-0 and were totally outplayed in a one-sided first half.
Manager Pochettino’s decision to play with three centre-backs backfired badly as Ajax enjoyed an extra man in midfield and dominated from the start.
Asked if he had got it wrong, Pochettino told BT Sport: “Yeah, of course. Watching the game, of course. I can accept it was a mistake, the shape that we used.
“Of course I am not happy. I can accept that. But I (also) think there was a lack of energy from the team.
“If you analyse the goal we conceded, it was so sloppy. That is about our approach to the game.
“But of course it is my responsibility all the time because I am the manager.”
Pochettino added that he had not been given an update on the condition of Jan Vertonghen.
The Spurs defender tried to carry on after a sickening clash of heads but, after coming back on to the pitch, he had to be helped off and appeared to be in a bad way while apparently suffering from a delayed reaction.
