Impressive Tottenham youngsters thrash Southampton to maintain perfect start

Tottenham’s Under-18 side hammered Southampton 5-2 in a resounding away win on Saturday to continue their 100% start to the season. 

Jeremie Mukendi scored twice and there were also goals for Dilan Markanday, Rayan Clarke and Phoenix Patterson in a one-sided game.

Mukendi opened the scoring after just four minutes, slotting home after being put through by Jamie Bowden’s lovely pass.

And Mukendi netted again to double the lead, this time after being found by a great ball from Malachi Walcott.

The home side pulled a goal back through Enzo Robise’s penalty on the half-hour mark, but Markanday restored Spurs’ two-goal cushion six minutes into the second half when he slotted home from a tight angle following Luis Binks’ long ball.

Bowden set up the fourth, putting substitute Clarke in to score, and was also involved in the fifth when he combined nicely with Patterson.

Reo Glean scored an injury-time consolation for the Saints.

On Friday evening, Spurs’ development side were beaten 2-1 by Arsenal’s at the Emirates Stadium.

Joe Willock and Tyreece John-Jules scored for the hosts and Spurs had Troy Parrott sent off before pulling a goal back late on through Jaden Brown.

Willock opened the scoring after just three minutes, finishing well after being found by James Olayinka’s cross.

John-Jules hammered home Arsenal’s second goal and they were denied a third by keeper Brandon Austin saving Charlie Gilmour’s penalty after Japhet Tanganga was adjudged to have fouled Tolaji Bola.

Spurs’ task got even harder when an angry melee ended with Parrott being red-carded.

But the visitors rallied late on and scored in injury time when Brown netted after being set up by Shayon Harrison.
