Three possible options for QPR with Furlong sidelined

QPR have been dealt a blow ahead of the new season with news that Darnell Furlong faces another spell on the sidelines.

The right-back, 22, missed almost three months of last season with a knee injury and now faces even longer out of action – again because of a knee problem.

Furlong limped off during a pre-season friendly against AFC Wimbledon on Saturday. Rangers have since confirmed that he has suffered knee ligament damage and has undergone surgery.

It leaves the R’s with a void to fill at right-back. So what are their options given the current squad?

Osman Kakay
The obvious choice would be youngster Kakay, who has made a handful of first-team appearances for the club and impressed towards the end of last season. Could Furlong’s misfortune give Kakay the chance of a run in the side?

Joe Felix
Recently signed after being released by Fulham, teenager Felix has no senior experience but impressed while on trial with the R’s last season and is highly thought of.

Pawel Wszolek
Polish winger Wszolek might be an option if boss Steve McClaren opts for experience rather than a natural right-back. Wszolek has defensive qualities and has played as a wing-back.
