Campbell in the frame as shortlist for QPR manager’s job is revealed

Sol Campbell is reportedly a leading contender for the manager’s job at QPR.

Rangers are looking for a replacement for Mark Warburton after deciding not to renew his contract.

And Talksport say former England, Arsenal and Tottenham defender Campbell will be interviewed for the position and is very much in the running.

Campbell is a former Spurs team-mate of QPR director of football Les Ferdinand and is keen for another opportunity in management, having had spells at Macclesfield and Southend.

According to Talksport, another ex-Tottenham man, Tim Sherwood, is also on the shortlist along with MK Dons head coach Liam Manning and Newport County’s James Rowberry.

Warburton had Rangers in the play-off positions for much of the season but lost his job after a terrible run saw the side drop to mid-table.

It was a hugely disappointing end to what had seemed a very promising season for the R’s.

Injuries to the likes of Chris Willock and keeper Seny Dieng took their toll, but the spine of a good team appears to be in place for the new manager – as well as Willock and Dieng, players such as Rob Dickie, Sam Field, Ilias Chair and Jimmy Dunne have caught the eye.
