Could Ferdinand be set to leave QPR?

Les Ferdinand is being linked with the position of FA technical director after Dan Ashworth left the role to take a job at Brighton.

Ashworth, who was at the FA for six years, was confirmed as Brighton technical director on Wednesday morning.

And according to Henry Winter, chief football writer at The Times, QPR director of football Ferdinand has been identified as a possible replacement at the FA.

Ferdinand, a former England international whose playing career included spells at Tottenham and West Ham as well as QPR, has overseen radical changes behind the scenes at Loftus Road since returning to the club.

Ashworth, meanwhile, is considered a tough act to follow, as he is credited by many in the game to have played a key role in England’s upturn in results, particularly at age group level and in women’s football.

In a statement, Brighton chairman Tony Bloom said: “There is no doubting Dan’s standing within the game, and we are absolutely delighted that he will be joining us.

“Dan’s CV speaks for itself, and while his work alongside Gareth Southgate, with England’s senior men’s team, was well documented last summer during the World Cup, it’s also worth highlighting his excellent work and successes across all the England men’s, women’s and junior teams.”
