QPR salvage point against Burnley

QPR were spared a damaging home defeat by two substitutes as Burnley were held to a 1-1 draw at Loftus Road.

Julien Stephan’s side were behind and short of ideas until the head coach sent on Ilias Chair and Rayan Kolli on the hour.

Largie Ramazani had stunned the home crowd seven minutes before the break, his right-footed strike from near the edge of the box beating goalkeeper Pierce Charles, who got a hand to it.

It could have been worse moments later, but Andreas Hountondji’s finish at the far post was ruled out for offside.

Richard Kone and Koki Saito made way in Stephan’s double change and the impact was instant. Chair blazed over from Kolli’s pass, then had a shot saved by Burnley goalkeeper Grégoire Coudert.

The equaliser soon followed, with Chair cutting in from the left and laying the ball across to Jonathan Varane, whose side-footed shot went in after Coudert palmed it onto the inside of the post.

Rangers should have gone on to win it, but substitute Justin Obikwu dragged a great chance wide in the 90th minute.

“Frustrated with the result but I enjoyed the performance,” said Stephan, who admitted that failing to take chances is now the main difference between his side and the teams at the top of the table.

The point left QPR 11th, a point outside the play-off places.
