QPR are interested in Middlesbrough defender Alex Baptiste.

West London Sport reports that Baptiste is being considered as a possible signing by Rangers manager Ian Holloway.

The 31-year-old, who spent most of last season on loan at Preston, previously played under Holloway at Blackpool.

QPR are keen to sign Watford centre-back Tommie Hoban on loan but the move was shelved when the player picked up a knee injury in training.

Baptiste, primarily a centre-back but who can also play at full-back, has also had spells with the likes of Mansfield, Burton and Bolton.

Holloway is hopeful that he will soon to be able to add to his squad.

“Hopefully I’m going to add one or two. We’re a little bit closer to doing that,” he said.

Rangers made an excellent start to their season, beating Reading 2-0 at Loftus Road on Saturday courtesy of two goals from Conor Washington.

“We played really well and I’m very proud of the players for the work they put in and proud of our crowd,” Holloway told reporters.

“I’m also delighted for Conor. He is a natural goalscorer and he could have had a hatful. I told him that if he pressed then he would get extra chances.”
