QPR dealt blow in bid to sign keeper

QPR have been dealt a blow in their attempts to bring in a goalkeeper ahead of this weekend’s match against promotion rivals West Bromwich Albion.

West London Sport last night reported that Derby County’s veteran stopper David Marshall was among the options the R’s were looking at for a short-term signing.

But within a couple of hours of that news emerging, Marshall was withdrawn from the starting line-up for a Rams Under-23s match after picking up an injury in the warm-up.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton is running out of time to bring in a keeper in the wake of Jordan Archer’s injury.

Archer suffered a suspected dislocated shoulder while making a decisive penalty save in Saturday’s FA Cup shoot-out win against League One leaders Rotherham.
With first-choice keeper Seny Dieng at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, Archer’s injury leaves teenager Joe Walsh as Rangers’ only option unless a keeper is signed.

Walsh was signed from Gillingham last year and is very much regarded as one for the future.

The 19-year-old is yet to make his competitive debut for the west London club but he did feature for Warburton’s side during pre-season – including in a win against Manchester United.
