Former Sheffield Wednesday boss in the running for QPR job

Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal is now among the favourites to take over as QPR manager.

Carvalhal, who also had a spell at Swansea, is now being offered at odds as narrow as 8/1 among some bookmakers to succeed the sacked Steve McClaren.

Meanwhile, West London Sport, which initially reported that McClaren faced the sack and that Tim Sherwood was the club’s first choice followed by Mark Warburton, Gary Rowett and Michael Appleton, reports that Rowett is now out of the running.

John Eustace has been in caretaker charge for two matches since McClaren left – a 4-0 defeat at Norwich and a goalless draw at Millwall.

The former Watford and Derby County midfielder is set to stay at the helm for this weekend’s home match against Swansea City but is unsure how long he will be in the role.

Speaking after the Millwall game on Wednesday night, Eustace said: “I don’t know. You’ll have to ask Les (Ferdinand, QPR director of football). They’re searching for a manager and as long as I can help the club, that’s all I’m worried about.

“I’m here until I’m told otherwise. I’m not thinking about that now – all I’m thinking about is each day and each game I’m in charge. It’s up to the club what they want to do then.”
