QPR’s search for a new manager goes on amid reports that Tim Sherwood has concerns about taking over, while two others have distanced themselves from reports they could be in the frame.
West London Sport reported on Monday morning that Rangers were set to sack Steve McClaren, whose exit was later confirmed, and that Sherwood was the first choice for the job, with Gary Rowett, Mark Warburton and Michael Appleton also in the running.
The Times has subsequently suggested that Sherwood has concerns about the financial situation at the club and might be out of Rangers’ reach.
Meanwhile, Charlton boss Lee Bowyer and Portsmouth manager Kenny Jackett have both dismissed reports that they could be in the frame.
Speaking at a press conference, Bowyer insisted he had heard nothing from Rangers despite reports he had been sounded out.
“It’s obviously all speculation. I’ve not spoken to anyone at QPR, so I’m not sure where that’s come from,” he said.
“It’s all part of football. When you’re doing well, you get linked to jobs and that’s a credit to everyone at the football club.”
Meanwhile, Portsmouth News reports that former R’s assistant boss Jackett has also played down reports linking him with the QPR job.
Portsmouth manager Jackett, who had a spell at the club during Ian Holloway’s first stint as manager, said: “I’d think it’s just speculation. There’s a lot of speculation there, but I’ve heard nothing.
“As I’ve said, I’d estimate in this case it’s speculation.’
