Nine youngsters from London clubs receive call-up

Nine players from London clubs have been named in the England Under-20 squad for the Continental Cup in South Korea.

England will next week face the host nation – who will stage next year’s Under-20 World Cup – as well as Nigeria and Iran.

Four Chelsea youngsters – Jake Clarke-Salter, Fikayo Tomori, Izzy Brown and Dominic Solanke – have been included by interim head coach Paul Williams.

So too have Kyle Walker-Peters (pictured) and Joshua Onomah of Tottenham, Arsenal pair Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Tafari Moore, and Charlton forward Ademola Lookman.

Most of the squad members are likely to get some game time given that Williams’ side will play three matches in the space of just four days.

England will play Nigeria on Wednesday, South Korea on Thursday and Iran next Saturday.

The Iranians, who have qualified for the Under-20 World Cup, are featuring next week as late replacements for Argentina, who were originally due to be involved.

Williams’ team recently won three matches in row, beating Germany, the Netherlands and the United States.

Former Brentford coach Williams was placed in charge when Aidy Boothroyd stepped up from coaching the Under-20s to take over the Under-21s when Gareth Southgate was promoted from that role to interim England manager.
