Chelsea fringe players wait to have futures resolved

Malang Sarr (pictured), Davide Zappacosta, Baba Rahman, Matt Miazga, Danny Drinkwater, Kenedy, Tiémoué Bakayoko, Jake Clarke-Salter and Lewis Baker have all returned to Chelsea following their respective loan spells. Michy Batshuayi, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley finished their loans a month earlier and now await news of the club’s plans for them this season.

Boss Thomas Tuchel is believed to be keen on watching Loftus-Cheek feature in pre-season before taking a call on the 25-year-old academy graduate’s future.

Sarr was one of 18 players included in the French Olympic contingent, but a report in L’Equipe states that the French U21 international, who endured mixed fortunes during his loan at Porto, will not be allowed by Chelsea to join the Olympic squad.

According to multiple reports in Italy, Bakayoko has rejected a contract renewal offered by the club and is eager to return to AC Milan either this season or as a free agent when his contract expires at the end of next season.

Miazga had a promising season at Anderlecht under Vincent Kompany, but the Belgian club does not have the necessary finances to sign the 25-year-old USA international on a permanent basis. Miazga’s contract expires next season.

Kenedy, who featured in 8 positions during his loan at Granada, is reportedly on his way back home to Brazil with Brazilian Serie A champions Flamengo set to offer a loan-plus-buy option, according to Globo Esporte.
