Norwich in talks to sign Gilmour on loan

Norwich have made the first move in the battle to sign Billy Gilmour on loan from Chelsea.

According to reports, the Canaries have begun talks about the possibility of a season-long deal.

But several other clubs are interested in the Scotland midfielder and it remains to be seen where he will be next season.

The Daily Mail reported this week that Newcastle and Southampton are also interested in Gilmour, while Football Insider have since claimed that Wolves are in the running,

Gilmour, 20, has made 22 first-team appearances for Chelsea and has impressed when given chances to play.

But he faces major competition for a place in the Blues side and boss Thomas Tuchel is set to allow him to spend next season elsewhere.

Tuchel suggested last season that there were still question marks over the youngster’s ability to compete at the top level.

Speaking at a press conference in January, the German said: “He is a strategic guy, with a very high level of game understanding.

“He is very good in the first contact, very clever in positioning. We will see if he has the physical level, at the highest level, if he can compete in the centre of the field in the most physical league in the world. We will see that.

“But he is super quick, super fast with his feet, super fast in decision making and very good in positioning.”
