Keane says Mount’s doubters are ‘idiots’

Roy Keane has again praised Mason Mount – this time labelling the Chelsea youngster’s doubters as “idiots”.

Mount continues to deliver for club and country – and he caught the eye again in England’s recent games.

Former Manchester United star Keane is a long-standing admirer of Mount and his opinion has been vindicated.

Speaking on ITV, Keane said: “It doesn’t matter what people outside the game think – there are a lot of idiots out there.

“He has performed well enough for every manager to say ‘Listen, you are going to be in my starting line-up’.

“Outstanding player. He wants to be an all round-midfielder. I never hear anything negative about him off the pitch. He seems a brilliant young kid.”

Keane’s fellow pundit Ian Wright agreed that Mount has justified the faith managers have shown in him.

England boss Gareth Southgate has made it clear Mount is a key player for the national side.

And Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has similarly backed Mount, who was a favourite of former Blues boss Frank Lampard.

“Gareth trusts him like Frank trusted him and Thomas Tuchel trusts him,” said the ex-Arsenal striker.

“Defensively you can trust him and offensively you can trust him. He’s done everything right.”
