Chelsea would be ‘mad’ to sack Lampard, says Redknapp

Jamie Redknapp is convinced Frank Lampard will turn things around at Chelsea if he is given more time.

The 2-0 defeat at Leicester was the Blues’ fifth loss in eight games and has fuelled speculation that Lampard could lose his job as manager.

But his cousin Redknapp believes the players need to take responsibility for recent results.

Speaking on Sky Sports, former England midfielder Redknapp said: “Of course you can look at the manager, but you’ve got to look at the players as well.

“I see players flying forward and jogging back. When you’re under pressure you’ve got to run – you’ve got to sprint.”

The pressure on Lampard has been increased by the fact that his expensive signings are not firing on all cylinders.

But both he and Redknapp have argued that more time is needed.

“What I think they’d be mad to do is not give someone time when you’ve brought in all these players,” Redknapp said.

“You have to give them time. You can’t just give knee-jerk reactions.

“They’re not good right now. Performances have not been good enough. But they will improve.

“Things will get better given time. Someone will get the best out of this squad. I think that Frank, because of his knowledge of the game and how he sees it, he’ll get it right – but it’s going to take a bit of time.”
