Newcastle boss Howe praises Livramento

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe has praised Timo Livramento for the impact he has made in Kieran Tripper’s absence.

Livramento, from Croydon, has impressed while Trippier has been out injured.

Speaking at a press conference ahead of the Magpies’ visit to the youngster’s former club Chelsea, Howe said: “I think it is a brilliant start to his Newcastle career, he has handled himself really well.

“His goal against Wolves last week showed his running ability and his technical ability and it has been the ideal introduction to his return to playing after his injury.

“He had a serious knee injury and a hamstring issue which kept him out and we had to look after him.

“How the season has gone it has been an ideal introduction and he has a very exciting future ahead of him. Hopefully.”

Livramento, 21, moved to St James’ Park last summer after a two-year spell at Southampton.

His performances have put him in the frame for an England call-up.

Trippier, meanwhile, is expected to be available again soon.

“Kieran isn’t too bad. It is a minor injury, but the scan showed enough to keep him out of the next two games,” Howe explained.

“We hope he will be back for the first game after the international break, but that is not guaranteed.

“There is every chance [to return after international break] and he is keen to stay with the group – that highlights his leadership qualities.”
