Jorginho in line for new Chelsea deal

Jorginho looks set to pledge his future to Chelsea and sign a new contract, according to Area Napoli.

Just a few weeks ago the midfielder appeared to be on his way out of Stamford Bridge as part of the Blues’ major squad revamp this summer.

The 28-year-old was reportedly the subject of interest from Arsenal and French champions Paris Saint-Germain as the summer transfer window deadline approached.

His future was also called into further question as Chelsea continued their interest in bringing West Ham’s defensive midfield star Declan Rice back to the Bridge.

But having stayed put, the Italian international is to be offered a contract extension which would take him beyond the end of his current deal which expires in 2023 and is worth around £110,000 per week.

Jorginho arrived at Chelsea for £57.4million in 2018 to link up with his former Napoli boss Maurizio Sarri and played in all but one Premier League fixture in his debut campaign.

The Chelsea vice-captain made another 31 Premier League appearances last season, and has started three out of four league matches for Frank Lampard’s side this season.

While a defensive option, Jorginho has also shown his worth in front of goal this season, scoring Chelsea’s opening goal of the campaign at Brighton, from the penalty spot, and adding a quickfire double against Crystal Palace.
