Silva signs new Chelsea contract

Veteran defender Thiago Silva has signed a new one-year contract that will keep him at Chelsea past his 39th birthday.

Silva, who previously played for AC Milan, helped Chelsea win the Champions League in his first season at Stamford Bridge and has proved to be a fine acquisition for the club.

After struggling defensively in the 2-1 defeat by Fulham earlier this month, Chelsea have kept back-to-back clean sheets with Silva and recent arrival from Monaco Benoit Badiashile impressing.

Earlier this season Chelsea splashed out £60 million to sign Seagulls left-back Marc Cucerella, who has endured a difficult start to his career at Stamford Bridge, with youngster Lewis Hall recently selected in his place.

Hall could also be in line to land a new contract at the Bridge.

Football Insider say talks with Hall are also at an advanced stage and that he is on course to cement his long-term future at the club.
