Rice reportedly rejects West Ham offers

A formal approach for Declan Rice could be imminent from Chelsea and Manchester United, after it was revealed that the England international has refused contract offers from West Ham.

According to Matt Law of The Telegraph, Rice could shoot down any of West Ham’s further attempts to tie him down with a new deal, in a bid to make a move to boyhood club Chelsea materialise.

The 22-year-old midfielder is reported to be valued by West Ham at about £100 million, but after posting losses of £65 million due to the pandemic last year, a significantly lesser bid could be accepted by the east London club should Chelsea or United test the waters with a bid.

Rice, who was released by Chelsea as a 14-year-old, is presently with the England squad, preparing to face Ukraine in the quarter-finals of Euro 2020.

He was widely praised for his performance in the recent victory over Germany at Wembley – no doubt adding to his already considerable market value.

West Ham have made it clear they want to keep Rice, who was a key player for them last season as they qualified for the Europa League, having challenged for a top-four finish until late in the campaign.
