Paper round-up: Arsenal tipped to move for Smalling

Arsenal continue to be linked with a move for Manchester United defender Chris Smalling.

The England centre-back is on loan at Roma and the Serie A club are keen to sign him on a permanent deal.

The Daily Mirror have picked up on various Italian media reports suggesting that Arsenal are looking to snatch Smalling from under Roma’s noses.

Metro say Roma were looking to pay £20m for Smalling but have been told by United he will cost them £25m.

Meanwhile, the Mirror say Arsenal are confident they will be able to keep Real Madrid loanee Dani Ceballos if the Premier League season continues into July.

The Independent say Manchester United, not Chelsea, are currently on course to sign Jadon Sancho.

The newspaper say Borussia Dortmund are ready to sell Sancho and that senior figures at the Bundesliga club believe Old Trafford is his most likely destination, even though he has been tipped to move to Stamford Bridge.

And Chelsea have put player contract talks on hold because of the coronavirus outbreak, the Daily Telegraph reports.

Willian, Pedro, Olivier Giroud and goalkeeper Willy Caballero are coming to the end of their deals at the Bridge.

The Telegraph say no decisions are being made on the players’ futures for the time being.
