Moreno is latest striker to be linked with Chelsea

Villarreal’s Gerard Moreno is the latest striker to be touted as a possible alternative Chelsea signing to Erling Haaland.

Chelsea face competition from Manchester City and others in a battle to sign highly-rated Norway forward Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

Several strikers have been linked with the Blues as a possible back-up signing should they miss out on Haaland.

They have included former Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, who was linked with a return to Stamford Bridge before pledging his future to Inter Milan.

Now Spain international Moreno is being mentioned as a possible signing for the European champions.

The Mirror have picked up on Spanish website Fichajes reporting that Moreno has been identified as an option by Chelsea.

As for Haaland, reports have suggested that personal terms have already been established for him to move to the Bridge.

But Dortmund have indicated that they do not want to sell him during this summer’s transfer window.

City have also been strongly linked with Haaland and, like Chelsea, are widely expected to bring in a top-class striker for next season.

That means both clubs will need to assess their short-term options if Haaland is out of their reach for the time being at least.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is expected to bolster his attacking options, particularly in light of Olivier Giroud’s expected departure and doubts over the future of Tammy Abraham.
