Millwall boss Neil Harris admits his side made hard work of their 3-2 victory over Plymouth in the Carabao Cup after needing two late goals to progress.
The Championship side looked to be heading for the exit door as Jamie Ness and Freddie Ladapo put the visitors 2-1 up at the Den.
But substitutes Lee Gregory and Aiden O’Brien rescued Millwall, after Shaun Williams had pulled one back from the spot, to send them through to the third round of the competition for the first time since 2011.
Millwall may have found the answers late on but Harris was disappointed with the goals his side conceded and urged them to improve ahead of a home clash with Swansea this Saturday.
“We deserved to win the game,” Harris said. “We dominated the game and it think that was obvious from the first minute. We made hard work of it because we gave two rubbish goals away, again.
“You give poor goals away, there’s a chance you will get beat and I’ve reiterated that to the group that we must do better. But I’m really pleased with a lot of the stuff we did, particularly with the ball.
“Ultimately it was about getting through to the next round and we did that. It’s always important to win and it’s important to win at The Den.
“This was the first of three home games coming up for us. I want to win all three so this result was important.
“I thought there was some really good performances and I saw a lot of hunger from the players out there.”
